The Korea Food and Drug Administration (KFDA) is considering setting up an official project team to support Seoul National University professor Hwang Woo-seok's stem cell research.

A KFDA official said Tuesday that the group is holding discussions to find out if Hwang's research team needs any assistance from the agency in relation to future clinical tests.

The agency is also considering establishing a special team to support Hwang's research.

According to the official, Hwang's team had consulted late last year with the government agency over whether the controversial stem cell research could secure an approval for future clinical tests.
