Hwang to Attend Stem Cell Summit

Two global cloning pioneers will meet in July for a stem cell summit in Houston, Texas.

Seoul National University professor Hwang Woo-suk and University of Pittsburgh scholar Gerald Schatten will attend the Stem Cell Policy and Advocacy Summit on July 11th and 12th at Baylor University.

Hwang's research team on Monday said the U-S Genetics Policy Institute invited the two scientists to advocate the need for therapeutic cloning for terminally ill patients.

Both men will speak on their recent accomplishments as published in Science magazine.

Hwang made world headlines Saturday after announcing his production of embryonic stem cells tailored to individuals, a major advance in treating incurable diseases.

Numerous policy-makers, researchers, political scientists and bio-ethics and legal experts are expected to attend the conference.
