Two studies by local researchers have appeared in the leading science journal Nature.
A research team led by Professor Kang Sang-won of Ehwa Woman's University on Thursday said it has found hydrogen peroxide causes cell multiplication and that a certain antioxident protein controls the density of hydrogen peroxide cells.
The study is expected to advance the treatment of hardened arteries and cancer caused by abnormal cell multiplication.
Another team led by Chung Yong-joo of Kookmin University has discovered joint functions of two certain proteins ease the unraveling of the spiral structure in DNA copying.
This finding is seen to help develop new viral treatments.
