The competitiveness of the nation's medical technology is behind those of advanced countries.

The Korean Academy of Medical Sciences on Monday said South Korea scored 80 points in a survey with a one hundred-point scale.

The study polled some one hundred local doctors between last September and last month to determine the level of domestic medical technology and treatment.

However, the rating of gastric and breast cancer was the full one hundred points, similar to the United States and Europe.

Doctors also said diagnosis and treatment of lung, liver, cervical and colorectal cancers have reached the level of advanced countries, but that of dementia is lagging behind.
