The country ranks second in the world in technology competitiveness.

The World Competitiveness Yearbook 2005 published by IMB of Switzerland also ranked the nation 15th in scientific competitiveness.

South Korea had ranked sixth in technology and 22nd in science in last year's poll, and exceeded the Science and Technology Ministry's targets of eighth and 16th place, respectively.

Domestic science and technology have thus significantly helped raise national competitiveness.
