World Cup Baseball to Start Next Year

The nation's best players will compete in the first World Cup of baseball next year.

The magazine Baseball America on Thursday said South Korea will play Japan, Taiwan and China in Tokyo in March next year in the inaugural World Baseball Classic.

Sixteen national teams will fill four groups, with two advancing after round-robin play to the quarterfinals in the United States. San Diego's Petco Park will host the finals.

Professional as well as amateur players are eligible.
