Nation to Commercialize Maglev Train

The country will become the third country after Germany and Japan to commercialize magnetically levitated train service.

Rotem, which developed the train, on Tuesday held a presentation on the locally produced Maglev train at a railroad near the Daedoek research cluster in South Chungcheong Province.

Magnetic force levitates the wheelless train above the tracks. It produces almost no turbulence or noise and costs up to 30 percent less in maintenance and repair than existing trains.

Nine provincial authorities including Busan and Jeonju will install the Maglev, while Rotem is discussing export deals with Indonesia and Malaysia.
