Seoul has offered to host the June 8th World Cup qualifier between North Korea and Japan.

A group of ruling and opposition party lawmakers on Monday made the proposal in a petition to FIFA, soccer's world governing body.

The petition said Seoul's hosting of the game will promote peace and harmony.

The lawmakers also called fan violence after the North's March 30th loss to Iran inexcusable, but that FIFA should ease what they called "harsh" sanctions on the North.

The petition also asked FIFA to allow fans to watch if the match is played in a third country.
