NK to Appeal FIFA Sanction

Written: 2005-05-04 17:21:36Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

North Korea will press soccer's world governing body to reverse its sanction.

FIFA will move a World Cup qualifier between the North and Japan to a neutral location without fans after riots broke out in Pyongyang following a match with Iran.

The Asahi Shimbun on Wednesday said a North Korean soccer official in Bejing will propose to FIFA tighter security and less fans for the June 8th match against Japan.

The North's appeal will stress two points: nobody was injured in the two March qualifiers in Pyongyang and a similar FIFA sanction on Iran only involved a limit on spectators.
