Local scientists have developed a home medical system for self-diagnosis of cancer and diabetes with a few drops of blood.

Professor Yoo Jae-cheon of Pohang University of Science and Technology said Friday that his research team's digital bio disc and drive allows self-diagnosis of five major cancers and diabetes at home.

The team has applied for an international patent on the new technology and is aiming to put the item on the market next year.

The professor said primary tests results show the product's accuracy exceeding 90 percent.
