To celebrate the "International Year of Physics 2005," the nation took part in the United Nations-sponsored World Light Festival Tuesday evening.
The worldwide event marks the 50th anniversary of scientist Albert Einstein's death.
Starting off in Princeton, New Jersey, a beam of light arrived in Busan at 8 pm, and was converted into an electromagnetic wave at Cape Homi in Pohang for wireless transmission to Dokdo.
At that very moment, Dokdo and vicinity were illuminated with lights shot from nearby squid fishing boats in a show of South Korea's sovereignty over the disputed islets.
After traveling through local cities, the light reached Seoul at 8:40 pm and was then delivered to Yeouido Park near the Han River, marking the highlight of the worldwide show.
From there, the light headed for Gaesung Industrial Complex in North Korea before returning to Seoul, and then went to Beijing.
