President of the International Olympic Committee Jacque Rogge expressed optimism on taekwondo remaining an official event of the summer Olympic Games.
During talks with the head of the Korean Olympic Committee, Kim Jeong-gil, on Friday in Lausanne, Switzerland, the IOC chief said the Korean sport had a negative reputation in the past, with accusations of unfair judging in taekwondo matches.
But he went on to say that he highly assesses the recent reform measures taekwondo has been demonstrating.
Experts accordingly predict a higher probability of the sport remaining an Olympic event at the IOC general assembly set for July 6 in Singapore.
The IOC has been working to overhaul the Olympic event lineup across the board for years. The final outcome regarding the total of 28 events will be decided in Singapore, after deliberations by the program and executive committees.
