A team of local scientist has discovered the function of a cancer-suppressing gene for the first time in the world.

The team& 039 s lead researcher, Seoul National University professor Baek Sung-hee, said it found a transcriptional regulation of metastasis suppressor gene dubbed "KA-11."

The team also discovered that two proteins called beta-catenin and Tip-60 also help suppress the cancer process.

The findings were published in the British science journal Nature.

The discovery is expected to help develop an anti-cancer drug with microscopic precision and no side effects which will prevent cancer cells from transferring to other organs.
