Choue Chong-won is the new president of the World Taekwondo Federation.

He defeated candidate Park Jun-jae at the WTF general assembly Wednesday in Madrid, Spain.

Choue, interim president since last June, will serve a four-year term.

His campaign stressed a package of reforms to clean up the federation. The world body approved his reforms in principle Tuesday and is likely to formally adopt them later this month.

The election follows last year's resignation of WTF President Kim Un-yong, who is serving a two-year prison term in South Korea for embezzlement and bribery.
