A locally-developed home network technology has been adopted as an international standard.

The Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Energy said Tuesday that 14 out of the 15 members of the International Electro-technical Commission had voted to adopt South Korea's Common Communication Protocol (CCP) as an international standard.

In particular, Japan and China are likely to join South Korea in jointly developing the technology which enables all home appliances, regardless of their manufacturers, to mutually exchange data.

The ministry said that following the international commission's decision, South Korea has secured a global position in leading international standardization in the home network area.
