Gov't to Report Minor Changes in Reactor Outputs

Written: 2005-04-04 18:17:15Updated: 0000-00-00 00:00:00

The Science and Technology Ministry will announce abnormal signs detected in the output of nuclear reactors if a two to three percent change occurs.

Such announcements in the past were only made when a change of fifty percent or more was caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes or tsunamis.

The ministry will also immediately disclose small leaks of radioactive materials under unstable conditions.

Accordingly, all nuclear power facilities, including those for nuclear fuel cycles and reactors for research purposes, are on the public disclosure list.

To protect safety, the minisry will also report minor breakdowns at facilities only on the Internet and not to the press.

Last year, eight out of 22 total security breaches were disclosed to the press.
