A local institute has developed a system allowing remote safety monitoring in nuclear power plants through personal digital assistants.

The Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety said Monday that it has developed the world's first "e-inspection support system" allowing remote monitoring of safety in nuclear power plants anytime and anywhere through PDAs.

To begin trial operations next week, the new system is expected to improve emergency responses at nuclear plants across the nation through monitoring of radioactive leaks and technical failures.
