Nat'l Team Upset by Saudis 2-0 in WC Qualifier

The national football team suffered an upset loss Friday to home team Saudi Arabia, 2-0, in a second-round World Cup qualifier.

In Damman, Saud Khariri's goal gave the Saudis the lead in the 29th minute. Yasser Al Dahtani put the game out of reach with his penalty kick for a score in the 73rd minute.

South Korea had called up most of its Europe-based stars for the match, including Park Ji-sung, Lee Young-pyo and Seol Ki-hyeon.

Despite its impressive firepower, the team displayed inconsistent offense during the game in the form of missed passes and weak crosses.

Saudi Arabia now leads Group A in the Asian zone, while South Korea is tied for second with Kuwait.

Next for the South Korean team is a home game against Uzbekistan Wednesday.
