South Korea, China and Japan have agreed to step up cooperation in developing wireless communication technology.

In a working-level conference on next-generation wireless communication in Tokyo Thursday, South Korea's delegation introduced new products using Wireless Broadband, or WiBro programs. It also gave a presentation on the current studies Korea is carrying out on fourth-generation mobile communication technologies.

The portable Internet, WiBro, is designed to be more efficient in providing Internet connectivity and mobile data than either broadband or current mobile services.

The Chinese team introduced its plans to implement third-generation wireless communication services as well as its progress in developing high-tech mobile technologies.

Japanese participants announced the results of their research on the frequencies and bandwidth needed for fourth-generation mobile communication.

The three countries also decided to bolster private-level cooperation in the field.
