Two Koreas to Face Each Other in Their First A-Match in 12 Years

South and North Korean national football teams have agreed to play an "A" match against each other for the first time in 12 years as a result of the North's qualification for a regional tournament on Sunday.

North Korea advanced to this year's East Asian Football Federation Championship by defeating Hong Kong two-to-zero in its final qualifier for the tournament.

The North has won all four of its qualifiers, advancing to the next stage to face defending champion South Korea, as well as China and Japan.

This year's East Asian Football Federation Championship is scheduled to take place July 31-August 6 in South Korea.

The upcoming game between the Koreas will be their first A-match since October 1993, when the South defeated the North three-to-zero in a qualifying match in Qatar for the 1994 U.S. World Cup.

It would also be the first A-match to be held in the South since the unification football match in October 1990.
