The government has unveiled an ambitious plan to foster the nation's software sector.

The Ministry of Information and Communication announced Monday that it plans to achieve 30 trillion won in production and three billion dollars in exports as well as create some 200-thousand new jobs in the software sector by 2007.

The ministry said it will gradually expand on its plan to even out government policies on information and technology that are heavily centered on promoting the hardware sector, including mobile phones and computer memory chips.

As part of efforts to nurture the software sector, the ministry has designated 2005 as the first year in the boosting of the software industry and plans to provide a total of 123 billion won in funds for the program.
