The 86th National Winter Games will kick off on Thursday in the Alpine resort of Yongpyeong in Gangwon Province.

Over the next three days, some 3,300 athletes from 15 cities and provinces will be competing for two-hundred-five gold medals in five events.

The new head of the Korean Olympic Committee, Kim Jung-kil, who was elected to the post Wednesday, will declare open the annual winter event at Yongpyong Resort, some 200 kilometers east of Seoul.
