South Korean outfielder Choo Shin-soo of the Seattle Mariners has been nominated by Sports Weekly as a candidate for Best New Player of the Year in the American League of Major League Baseball in the U.S.

In the Thursday issue of Sports Weekly, reporter Paul White placed Choo on the nominee list along with teammate Jeremy Reed.

Last year, in the minors, Choo attained respectable performance with 40 stolen bases, 15 homeruns and a batting average of .315 playing for Double-A San Antonio of the Texas League.
