Austria's Olympic Committee has decided on Salzburg as its candidate city to host the 2014 Olympics.

The decision left behind Austria's other hopeful, Innsbruck.

Salzburg, the birth town of Mozart and former Olympic skiing champion Hermann Maier, had lost to Vancouver for the 2010 Games.

Salzburg will face opposiiton from South Korea's Pyeonchang – which narrowly missed out last time – and Ostersund in Sweden while others believed likely to become candidates are the German city of Munich, Tromsoe in Norway and Borovetz in Bulgaria.

The final choice will be made by the International Olympic Commitee in 2007 in Guatemala.
