A series of follow-up studies by Seoul National University Professor Hwang Woo-suk and his team of researchers on the extraction of stem cells from cloned human embryos is being featured in a number of notable academic papers around the world.
Professor Hwang and Professor Ahn Kyu-ri at Seoul National University recently announced the discovery of a method to control an immunity rejection response, one of the toughest problems Hwang and his research team faced during the process of transplanting stem cells.
The latest findings were announced in the January edition of the International Journal of Biochemistry and Cell Biology as well as in Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications.
Additional studies by Hwang were featured in the January edition of Theriogenology, a well-known international academic paper on veterinary science. Hwang's research will also be featured in the February issue of the magazine.
The February issue will introduce a new method of maximizing the success rate of fertilization when a single sperm is injected into the ova by stimulating the membrane of the head of the sperm with a specially designed instrument.
Hwang has projected that the same technology could be used to treat human infertility.
