Trial Operations of Satellite DMB Kicks off Monday

Trial operations have been launched for satellite Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (DMB), which enables subscribers to watch TV on mobile phones or while traveling in cars.

TU Media Corporation announced Monday that it had begun providing trial DMB services as of early Monday to three television and six radio channels. A company official said that during the trial period, programs from leading local cable television stations, such as news network YTN and music channel m-Net, would be featured.

The official said that his firm will work to test the functioning of systems and equipment, transmission quality and prime viewing hours of potential subscribers. But he said the satellite DMB services will not be available in tunnels, underground or in areas where gap-fillers are not installed.
