South Korean researchers have developed a network based humanoid for the first time in the world.

A research team led by Yoo Jae-beom at the Korea Institute of Science and Technology (KIST) said on Thursday it had developed NBH-1, or Network Based Humanoid, a new humanoid robot capable of recognizing its owner.

The research team said that the NBH-1, whose intellectual capabilities are provided from an external server, can also walk forward and backward, perform natural arm movements such as handshaking, and even perceive objects.

The KIST said this is the first time network based intelligence technology was applied to a humanoid larger than a small robot.
