Samsung Electronics, the world's largest maker of liquid crystal displays, says it has developed a 21-inch organic light-emitting diode (OLED) panel, claiming it to be by far the world's largest OLED display.
The new portable display, which will be used for TV and computer monitors, is power-efficient and enables a high-resolution visual display.
Organic LED screens emit their own light, making little use of back lighting and therefore allowing equipment makers to develop slimmer and more energy-efficient monitors.
In making the announcement Tuesday, the South Korean company claimed that Samsung had secured the technological upper edge in the global OLED market. The electronics giant also said that the latest feat is expected to add momentum to the ongoing government-led OLED development project aimed at fostering one of several future growth engines for the country.
