South Korean researchers have developed a chip they say will help to accurately predict if treated liver cancer patients will see a recurrence in their ailment, and for terminally ill patients, how much longer they would have to live.

The Korea Institute of Radiological and Medical Sciences said Friday the chip was jointly developed by the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology.

Researchers say the chip, which has a 80 to 85 percent prediction accuracy, will help doctors choose a proper treatment method for liver cancer patients.

The scientists said the chip can be produced in two or three years following clinical testing and government approval.
