The South Korean government is looking to expand a Korea Internet Volunteers program next year, aimed at bridging the information-technology gap between advanced and developing countries.
The Information Ministry said it would support the program to send some 320 South Korean volunteers to 30 countries for a one-month period next year in a bid to assist people in developing countries with education on computers and the Internet as well as to promote Korean culture overseas.
This year, the government-led program had dispatched 300 volunteers to several countries, including areas in Russia and Africa, and reached out to some 8,400 citizens of the world.
Since its inception in 2001, around 1,080 volunteers, mainly professors and university students, have been providing information-technology training to communities in developing nations.
