Chung Mong-joon, Chairman of the Korean Football Association, says he is negative about the idea of fielding a single South-North Korean soccer team for the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals to be held in Germany.
Chung was responding to recent comments by North Korea's national soccer team coach Yun Jong-su, who expressed hopes of organizing a single Korean team for the World Cup.
Chung said Wednesday that in the event both Koreas enter the World Cup finals, choosing players for such a single team would not be an easy task.
He also cited complicated issues that would likely arise from the four and a half tickets allotted to Asian countries for the World Cup finals.
The North Korean soccer official made the suggestion for a possible joint Korean team on the Asian Football Confederation's Web site after his team's one to zero loss to the United Arab Emirate in Dubai on Wednesday night. Yun's comment came after his team lost 1-0 to the United Arab Emirate in Dubai on Wednesday night.
