S. Korea Ties 1-1 with Lebanon in Asian Qualifier

South Korea's national football team is on course to advance to the next qualifying round for the 2006 World Cup after topping Group 7 preliminary standings on a 1-1 draw against Lebanon.

In the match held in Beirut early Thursday morning, South Korea's Choi Jin-cheul opened the scoring in the eighth minute. However, Korea stumbled when Ali Naserredine fired in a goal in the 28th minute for the equalizer.

The undefeated South Koreans now have 11 tournament points after five matches, putting it one point ahead of Lebanon. South Korea will compete against the Maldives on Nov. 17.
