Former Prime Minister Han Duck-soo has filed an appeal against last week’s court ruling sentencing him to 23 years in prison for his role in the martial law incident of December 3, 2024.

Han’s legal representatives submitted the appeal to the Seoul Central District Court on Monday.

In its verdict, handed down Wednesday last week, the court defined the December 3 martial law attempt as an insurrection.

The court said that far from preventing the insurrection, Han played a central role in it.

It also found him guilty of creating false official documents, destroying presidential records, and perjuring himself during former President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment proceedings.

Meanwhile, the special counsel team in charge of the martial law incident filed its own appeal challenging the court’s finding that Han was not guilty of using false official documents.
