Gymnast Paul Hamm of the U.S., at the center of an Olympic gold medal dispute, said Monday, if the Court of Arbitration of Sport rules in favor of South Korean gymnast Yang Tae-young, he will let go of the gold medal.
Yang filed the appeal with the Court a month ago, asking it to correct a juding error in the men's all-around gymnastics final at the Athens games. He was only awarded a bronze instead of the gold he rightfully deserved.
A one-day review by the sports arbitration court was held in the Swiss city Lausanne, after which the American gymnast said he will return the medal if the Court decides so, adding that the day's hearing progressed in a smooth and fair manner.
The court is expected to decide on the matter within two weeks.
Despite a scoring mistake was acknowledged at the games, the International Gymnastics Federation has refused to change the results, arguing South Korea did not file a protest in time.
