A Seoul court has begun reviewing a pretrial detention warrant request for former President Yoon Suk Yeol on allegations that he ordered drones deployed to North Korea last year in a bid to justify his martial law declaration by provoking the North to retaliate.

The Seoul Central District Court began the warrant hearing Tuesday afternoon after the special counsel team that investigated Yoon’s martial law move indicted the former president on the additional charges of aiding the enemy, abusing his power, and obstructing others from exercising their rights.

Yoon’s detention period is set to expire January 18.

If the Seoul court issues a new warrant, the former president could stay behind bars for up to six more months.

A court ordered Yoon’s release from custody in March, but he was jailed again in July in connection with the martial law investigation.
