The railway workers’ union has suspended a strike that was set to begin Tuesday after reaching an agreement with the government on performance‑based bonuses.

The Korean Railway Workers’ Union said early Tuesday that it decided to call off the walkout after reaching a deal with government officials at around 12:10 a.m.

Under the agreement, the government pledged to submit a proposal to the finance ministry’s ownership steering committee to raise performance‑bonus payments from the current 80 percent of base pay to 90 percent in 2026 and 100 percent in 2027.

The union said it will wait for the committee’s decision at its meeting scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday.

Following the suspension of the strike, the Korea Railroad Corporation said all train services will operate as normal.

The union had previously warned that about 12‑thousand members would join the walkout unless performance‑bonus payments were raised to 100 percent of base pay.
