Seoul has unveiled an emergency transport plan to bolster subway and bus services and minimize public inconvenience as railway workers prepare to launch a strike on Tuesday.

City officials said Monday that five additional subway trains will be placed on standby to offset expected reductions in service on lines affected by the walkout.

The city will add 18 extra subway runs on sections between Seoul Station and Cheongnyangni on Line 1, Gupabal and Ogeum on Line 3 and Danggogae and Sadang on Line 4.

Officials added that all other lines operated by Seoul Metro — Lines 1 through 8 — as well as privately run routes such as Line 9, the Sillim Line and the Ui–Sinseol Line, will continue operating normally.

Bus services will also be expanded, with peak‑hour operations on 344 regular city routes extended by one hour in both the morning and evening, running from 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. and from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.
