The union representing workers on Seoul Subway Line 9 called off a strike after reaching a tentative labor deal with Seoul Metro, allowing trains to run normally.

Seoul Metro’s Line 9 operations unit, which manages the section between Eonju Station and VHS Medical Center Station, said it reached a tentative deal with the union around 5 a.m. Thursday on wages and collective bargaining.

The deal came after nearly nine hours of overnight negotiations that began at 8 p.m. Wednesday in southern Seoul.

Talks had continued since a special mediation process ended in early September, with wage increases and staffing levels at the center of the dispute.

Under the tentative deal, wages will be raised within three percent of total labor costs and gradually aligned with the pay scale applied to Subway Lines 1 through 8. Discussions on staffing will continue.
