The government seeks to integrate the KTX and SRT high-speed rail services.

The transport ministry on Monday announced a roadmap to integrate the two railway systems by merging KTX operator Korea Railway Corporation with SRT operator SR.

The ministry said the integration aims to increase available seats and reduce safety concerns.

The integration was a part of President Lee Jae Myung's election pledge.

According to the plan, the government will allow KTX and SRT trains to run on each other's lines at stations where demand exceeds supply to increase capacity.

Ticket reservations and sales will be combined, and discounts will be offered for transfers.

The ministry plans to collect opinions from relevant parties and undergo necessary legal procedures to push for the integration by late 2026.
