Coupang Recaps Data Breach on Website, Issues Guidance for Customers

The e-commerce giant Coupang has posted information on its website recapping the recent data leak and offering guidance on how customers can prevent potential harm.

In the post on Sunday, the company stressed that no new breach has occurred and it was only reiterating the guidance it previously issued.

The company again apologized to customers and said it reported the leak to the authorities immediately after detecting it and is cooperating with the investigation.

It also said no payment information, passwords or personal customs clearance codes were compromised, citing a police announcement indicating that a full police review found no evidence of secondary harm from the leaked data.

The latest notice followed a decision last week by the Personal Information Protection Commission, which instructed Coupang to display information about the incident on its main homepage for a set period and change its wording to “data leak” instead of “data exposure.”
