Food prices have risen more than 27 percent over the past five years.

According to data from the Ministry of Data and Statistics on Sunday, the food price index stood at 127-point-one in November, up 27-point-one percent from 2020.

In contrast, the overall consumer price index climbed 17-point-two percent during the same five-year period.

The increase in food prices pushed up the cost of living index, which closely reflects perceived inflation.

The cost of living index rose 20-point-four percent over the past five years, during which nonfood items such as clothing, electricity and gas increased in price by 16-point-four percent.

The price of dried seaweed jumped 54-point-eight percent during the period, while eggs got 44-point-three percent more expensive.

Prices for cooking oil and apples surged more than 60 percent, and the cost of bread rose 38-point-seven percent.
