The cold snap is forecast to temporarily subside on Sunday.

According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, morning lows on Sunday are expected to range from minus three to plus eight degrees Celsius, four to five degrees higher than the annual average.

Daytime highs are projected to rise to between nine and 16 degrees, around five degrees higher than average.

Authorities urged drivers to exercise caution as melted snow could refreeze overnight, causing icy roads and black ice.

Dry weather alerts are in place for the mountainous areas of Gangwon Province as well as for North Gyeongsang Province, regions along the east coast, Daegu and parts of South Gyeongsang Province.
