The National Assembly will hold a confirmation hearing later this month for its nominee to head the newly launched Korea Media and Communications Commission.

The Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Commission is expected to adopt the confirmation hearing plan for Kim Jong-cheol on Tuesday and to convene the hearing on December 16.

Parliament, which received a request for a confirmation hearing on Thursday, must complete the related procedures within 20 days.

Kim told reporters on Thursday that the watchdog had failed to serve the people and the economy due to prolonged vacancies and that he intends to prioritize the organization's stability.

The parliamentary committee is also set to convene a hearing on December 17 regarding a recent data breach at e-commerce giant Coupang.
