A fishing boat carrying seven crew members capsized off the western coastal county of Taean on Thursday, killing three and leaving one missing.

According to the Coast Guard, the nine‑point‑77‑ton vessel overturned at about 6:20 p.m. in waters near Taean, South Chungcheong Province, about 140 kilometers southwest of Seoul.

At the time of the accident, strong winds and high waves had prompted both wind and wave advisories across the coastal area.

Seven people, including the captain, were on board. Three were rescued safely and are in stable condition.

Three others died, and one remains missing as of Friday morning.

The Coast Guard has deployed ten patrol boats and one aircraft since Thursday to locate the missing individuals, but rough seas have hampered the search.
