Coupang Updates Notice of ‘Data Exposure’ to ‘Data Leak’

Online retail giant Coupang on Thursday updated its notice to customers regarding its recent large-scale data breach, changing its description of the incident from data “exposure” to data “leak.”

It has been two weeks since the e-commerce giant first announced in November that personal information of more than four-thousand-500 of its customers had been exposed.

The Personal Information Protection Commission told Coupang on Wednesday to re-notify customers about its recent breach, specifically demanding it use the term "leak" instead of "exposure."

This comes after a KBS report the same day revealed that Coupang’s  situation-specific response guide to the data breach had employees still using the term "exposure” when speaking to customers about related matters and had not officially notified the public that personal information was leaked, even after details of the incident were confirmed.
