The nominee to head the newly launched Korea Media Communications Commission(KMCC) said he intends to prioritize stabilizing the organization.

Kim Jong-cheol told reporters on Thursday that the watchdog had failed to serve the people and the economy due to prolonged vacancies and had been unable to adapt effectively to advances in artificial intelligence.

The nominee then asked the rival political parties to recommend candidates for open commission seats.

Kim pledged to serve the public interest, autonomy and diversity and to follow up on parliament-approved broadcasting reform bills in the spirit of dialogue and compromise.

He said he would analyze and consult with the justice minister regarding the recent nullification of the now-defunct Korea Communications Commission's approval of Eugene ENT's 2024 acquisition of a YTN stake.
