The National Museum of Korea was found to have attracted more than 100 million visitors since it first opened its doors eight decades ago.

The museum, which marked its 80th anniversary on Wednesday, announced that as of the end of November, 100 million, 669-thousand-308 people had visited the institution.

The museum said that compared to when it first opened in December 1945, the number of visitors had jumped by roughly 46-fold,  the number of collections nine-fold and the size of facilities 21-fold.

Based on the achievements made during the past eight decades, the museum is devising ways to provide better exhibition experiences, placing top priority on expanding exhibition spaces.

It also plans to expand convenience facilities and make necessary preparations to better greet more foreign visitors as the number of annual visitors is set to reach six million soon.
