A detention hearing has begun for People Power Party(PPP) floor leader Choo Kyung-ho, who stands accused of aiding former President Yoon Suk Yeol's martial law declaration last year.
At the Seoul Central District Court on Tuesday, Choo said he expected a fair decision free of political bias, but remained silent when asked how he intended to address the allegations against him.
Choo faces an accusation of deliberately moving the venue of a PPP gathering to block lawmakers from attending a vote that would revoke the decree.
His flipping the location back and forth between the National Assembly and the party's headquarters prevented 90 out of 108 PPP representatives from voting, according to prosecutors, though the decree still passed with all 190 present lawmakers in favor.
Choo has denied wrongdoing and blamed then-PPP chief Han Dong-hoon, instead, for holding up the vote.
Choo also alleges that he once again changed the venue to the party's headquarters in Seoul's Yeouido after police blocked access to the Assembly building.
