The head of e-commerce giant Coupang said a Chinese former employee suspected of orchestrating a massive data breach that exposed 33-point-seven million accounts was in charge of developing the company's authentication system.

Coupang CEO Park Dae-jun said the suspected worker was a member of the firm's development team, during a session of the National Assembly's Science, ICT, Broadcasting and Communications Committee on Tuesday.

Park declined to elaborate on the number of suspects involved in the case, citing the ongoing nature of the investigation.

Park promised to take responsibility until the end and do his best to resolve the crisis.

Asked whether Coupang founder and Chairman Bom Kim intends to issue a public apology, Park stressed that he was accountable for the incident.
