South Korea and the U.S. will launch a working group to implement recent agreements across nuclear energy, shipbuilding, and other areas.

According to Seoul’s foreign ministry on Tuesday, the two sides made the agreement during a meeting between First Vice Foreign Minister Park Yoon-joo and U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Christopher Landau in Washington on Monday.

During the talks, Park requested bilateral consultations to implement the commitments, including South Korea’s civilian uranium enrichment and reprocessing of spent nuclear fuel.

Landau agreed, saying both sides would communicate closely.

Park and Landau also pledged to begin substantive talks on shipbuilding cooperation and Seoul’s plan to build a nuclear-powered submarine.

The meeting marked the first high-level bilateral consultation since the South Korea–U.S. summit in Gyeongju on October 29.
